India, UAE sign MoU to strengthen education sector

The signing of the MoU between India and the UAE in the field of education marks a significant milestone in their bilateral relationship.

In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations and fostering educational cooperation, India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening ties in the education sector. Union Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan today met Minister of Education UAE, H.E. Dr. Ahmad Al Falasi in Abu Dhabi.

UAE being a Global Economic hotspot and India being a Global Talent hotspot, both sides should work together to build a knowledge bridge to cement our civilizational connect. The Minister also visited 42 Abu Dhabi, a School for Disruptive Learning. The collaboration will strengthen existing educational cooperation facilitating student and faculty mobility and various other initiatives.

Education minister is on a 3-day visit to UAE. The visit will be fostering collaboration, participation and synergy in critical areas of mutual interest in the education and the skill domain. UAE being a Global Economic hotspot and India being a Global Talent hotspot, both sides should work together to build a knowledge bridge to cement our civilizational connect.

The Ministers reviewed the bilateral engagements in education and skill development, particularly the progress on points discussed during our meeting on the sidelines of the 4th EdWG as a part of the G20 India. This aligns with the growing importance of skill-based education as well as student exchanges, study-abroad programs, and joint degree programs to enrich the educational experience and training for student in both countries.

Furthermore, it will facilitate student and faculty mobility, designing courses, organising and participation in conferences, lectures, symposia, courses, scientific and educational exhibitions in areas of mutual interest held in both countries.

They expressed satisfaction on the progress made with respect to mutual recognition of academic and skill qualifications, recognition of Indian institutes in the UAE among others and underscored the need for continued work in this area. The Ministers expressed their commitment to strengthen institutional mechanisms and speed up processes for smooth student and workforce mobility.

The MoU between India and the UAE carries several implications that extend beyond the realm of education such as:

  1. Cultural Exchange: It will bridge cultural gaps, promote understanding, and foster a sense of unity thus fostering more cohesive global community.
  2. Economic Collaboration: A well-educated workforce can contribute to economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness in both countries.
  3. Strengthened Bilateral Ties: The MoU deepens the friendship and cooperation between India and the UAE, setting the stage for more extensive collaboration in various sectors.
  4. Skill Development: Collaboration in skill development is especially pertinent in the context of economic diversification in the UAE and India’s focus on upskilling its workforce.
  5. Global Competitiveness: It positions them as attractive destinations for students and researchers, contributing to their global influence.
  6. Indian Diaspora in the UAE: The Indian diaspora in the UAE is one of the largest expatriate communities in the country. Their contributions to various sectors, including education, have played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations.

The MoU paves the way for the establishment of a Joint Working Group (JWG) responsible for overseeing its implementation. The JWG will meet at least once a year, alternately in India and the UAE, to review progress and address any challenges that may arise.

Shri Pradhan also visited 42 Abu Dhabi, a coding school with deep focus on encouraging innovation, creativity and peer-to-peer learning through project-based and gamified curriculum. A first-of-its-kind school in the country, thrust on removing barriers to education for realising the vision of a tech-enabled future is commendable.

Open 24/7 all throughout the year, it provides perfect flexibility to learners to also learn and earn as per their schedules. Flexibility and learning while earning is also a key recommendation of NEP 2020. Incorporating such progressive pathways is a way forward to empower India’s talented youth and workforce.

The Education Minister had an insightful interaction with students and faculty at Abu Dhabi Indian School (ADIS), one of the largest schools catering to the Indian community. It is nurturing Indian students and instilling in them the culture, values and ethos of both India and the UAE. These students are future global citizens and ambassadors of India and its civilisational ethos.

As this partnership evolves, it is expected to foster innovation, strengthen bilateral ties, and promote a shared commitment to knowledge and learning. The collaboration holds the potential to benefit not only India and the UAE but also the broader international community as it paves the way for cross-cultural understanding and global cooperation.
