With just over a month to go for its 54th edition, the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) announced the opening of media delegate registration for the mega event on October 10. According to a press release, media delegates at IFFI 54 will have “the privilege of being among some of the world’s best filmmakers, actors, technicians, critics, academicians, and fellow film enthusiasts, all congregating in the picturesque state of Goa”.

To become a media delegate, one must be 21 years of age as of January 1, 2023, and should belong to a digital, electronic, print, or online media organization. One can register via the official website of IFFI and complete the online registration process in a simple, straightforward manner.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said the award aims to overview artistic merit, technical prowess, storytelling excellence, and overall impact on Indian cinema. It will incentivize and create investment opportunities in India’s OTT sector, encourage content in Indian languages, foster growth and innovation, and recognize exceptional talent.

The Union Minister stated, “India is filled with exceptional talent; I encourage you to tell the story of a rising and aspirational New India; ready to lead the world, with a billion dreams and a billion untold stories.”
According to the official report, a new award category has been added called the ‘Best Web Series Award’ which will recognize and facilitate an original web series available in an Indian language originally shot on the OTT platform. The awards and prizes will fall under various categories each carrying a separate hefty amount of money.

The following prizes will be given away:
- ‘Best Film’ will have a cash prize of Rs. 40,00,000/- shared by the Director and Producer and an award of Golden Peacock and a Certificate to the Director.
- ‘Best Director’ will receive the Silver Peacock award, Certificate, and a cash prize of Rs. 15,00,000/-.
- ‘Best Actor’ (Male & Female) will have the Silver Peacock, Certificate and Rs. 10,00,000/- respectively.
- ‘Best Debut Feature Film’ will win a cash prize of Rs. 10,00,000/-, a Silver Peacock, and a Certificate.
- ‘Special Jury Award’ will receive an amount of Rs. 15,00,000/-.
Apart from these, there are several other categories like the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Cinema, the Indian Film Personality of the Year Award, and so on.
The Festival, held in Goa, aims at providing a common platform for filmmakers of the world to project their excellence in film art; contributing to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethos; and promoting friendship and co-operation among people of the world.
