India launches ‘Operation Ajay’ amidst war

The evacuation process will begin soon amidst fresh aerial attack from Lebanon on Israel as well as Iraq threatening US for the ‘support’ to the country.

Amid intense fighting between Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas terrorists, India is set to get its citizens out of the conflict zone with the Union Ministry of External Affairs launching ‘Operation Ajay’ to facilitate the return of Indian citizens from Israel.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar posted on social media platform X, “Launching #OperationAjay to facilitate the return from Israel of our citizens who wish to return. Special charter flights and other arrangements are being put in place. Fully committed to the safety and well-being of our nationals abroad.”

Nations like India, Denmark, the UK, the USA, etc have started the evacuation process. The death count climbed to nearly 3,600 on the fifth day of the Israel-Gaza war, the Israeli army said on Wednesday that there has been a “suspected infiltration” from Lebanon into the country’s airspace, reported news agency AFP.

Residents of three cities in the country’s north, which shares a border with Lebanon, have been asked to shelter “until further notice” as Israel’s army suspects a ‘large-scale attack’ from Lebanon as they continue to violate air traffic regulations amidst fresh aerial filtration. Earlier in the day, Lebanon’s militant group Hezbollah said it had fired missiles on an Israeli army post near the northern Israeli village of Arab al-Aramshe raising alarm sounds all over North Israel.

Israel has ordered a complete siege of Gaza, after retaliatory strikes demolished the entire neighborhoods of Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, with airstrikes smashing the entire city blocks to rubble and leaving unknown numbers of bodies beneath mounds of debris. On Wednesday, the city’s sole power station ran out of fuel, forcing it to shut down, after Israel cut off supplies. It also stopped the entry of food, water, and medicine into the city.

Meanwhile, powerful Iraqi and Yemeni armed groups, Badr Organization aligned with Iran have threatened to target U.S. interests with missiles and drones if Washington intervenes to support Israel in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza already showing signs of expanding to further fronts.

The USA has shown strong support to Israel by rapidly providing additional munitions and deploying carrier strike groups to the Eastern Mediterranean. Iraq’s powerful armed faction, Kaitab Hezbollah which has close ties with Iran, said it would target US bases with drones, missiles, and its special forces if Washington did not stop to intervene in the war.

India, on the other hand, has shown a ‘soft corner’ towards Israel based on its long-lasting friendship whereas Palestine diplomats have asked to ‘join forces’. As the war between Israel and Hamas entered its fifth day on Wednesday, the good news remains that there is no casualty of any Indian till now.

As of now, there are 18,000 Indians in the terror-hit country. The return process will begin on Thursday (October 12). The Indian Embassy in Israel has emailed the first lot of registered citizens for the special flight tomorrow and messages to others will follow soon for subsequent flights.
