She made a surprise appearance on the Tory conference stage on Wednesday as she introduced her “best friend” the Prime Minister to give his keynote speech. Being the first major televised speech by Akshata Murthy, she praised her husband’s brilliance, swiftness, honesty, and resilience to make a mark in politics.
Admitting that her husband had ‘no idea’ that she’d planned the ‘gatecrash’, Britain’s first lady stated, ”As you’d expect, there’s been a lot about Rishi in the media. About who he is, what he likes, what he doesn’t like, what motivates him, and so forth.”

She further added, “Now some of it is accurate, I’m afraid he does love a good rom-com – the cheesier the better even. Some of it is not so true, so you’ll be relieved to hear that episodes of the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris are not informing his outlook on the EU.”
During the speech, she shared her ‘love story as to how and what attracted her to Rishi Sunak when they first met at Stanford University. She revealed that it wasn’t his appearance that attracted to her him but rather his deep love for his home country, the UK.
Her words were met with applause from the audience, and a visibly moved Sunak stepped onto the stage to deliver his speech. This unexpected personal touch added a new dimension to the political proceedings and shed light on the man behind the political figure, Rishi Sunak.
