‘Dhoom’ franchise Director dies at 56

The director Sanjay Gadhvi passed away at his Mumbai residence on Sunday, 19 November. He was 56. The news was confirmed by his daughter, Sanjini.

According to Sanjini, “He passed away at 9.30 am this morning at his residence. We are not sure what it is, but it is most likely a heart attack. He wasn’t unwell; he was perfectly healthy,” The director was three days away from his 57th birthday. ‘Dhoom’ series star Abhishek Bachchan was shocked beyond belief by the filmmaker’s sudden demise.  To subscribe please click tau.id/2iy6f and access our live channel.

Gadhvi made his directorial debut with Tere Liye in 2000. The director also worked on Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai in 2002, which was his first project with Yash Raj Films. He was best known for helming two blockbuster hits in the Yash Raj Films’ “Dhoom” franchise — “Dhoom” (2004) and “Dhoom 2” (2006).

The actor took to his social media handle and said, ” Sanju, when I spoke to you last week and we were reminiscing about our shoots and memories I would never have imagined even in my craziest dreams that I would have to write a post like this. I’m shocked beyond belief,”

He further added, “You had faith in me, even when I didn’t. You gave me my first-ever hit! I can never ever forget that or be able to express what it meant to me. I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace my brother,”

Bollywood stars Bipasha Basu and Tusshhar Kapoor also shared their condolences through individual social media platforms. Kunal Kohli, director of Fanaa and Hum Tum shared a post stating, ” “This is beyond shocking. #SanjayGadhvi RIP never thought I’d have to write your obituary. Shared an office for many years at YRF, lunch dubbas, discussions. Will miss you my friend. This is too hard to accept,”

Sanjay had made his directorial debut with 2000 film Tere Liye. He directed quite a few films made under the Yash Raj Films banner. Among them was Dhoom, Dhoom 2 and the 2002 film Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.

He also directed Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Minissha Lamba-starrer Kidnap in 2008, Arjun Rampal-starrer Ajab Gazabb Love in 2012 and Operation Parindey in 2020, which starred Amit Sadh and Rahul Dev.
