Lakshadweep’s tourism sector received a significant boost as the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation granted SpiceJet a contract for seaplane services under the UDAN scheme.

Spicejet seaplane services for Lakshadweep will run from Kalpani to Minicoy,Kavaratti to Bitra, Kavaratti to Kadmat, Kavaratti to Kalpani, Kavaratti to Kiltan, Kochi to Bangaram, Kochi to Bitra and Kochi to Kalpani.

It may be noted that SpiceJet was awarded the seaplane contract by the central government amid a huge row over Maldives ministers’ derogatory comments over PM and our country.
Kapil Kaul, CEO of CAPA India, said, “the islands currently experience limited connectivity but anticipates a surge in the coming weeks, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.”
He further stated that, “Maldives currently comprises of 12% of its market share from Indian Tourists. This could change as Indians shall now prefer visiting places and islands within the borders.”
Moreover, travel aggregator giant, Make My Trip claimed that, over 3,400 per cent jump was recorded in searches related to Lakshadweep after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the island.
Trying to capitalise on the mood of the people, the travel company is launching a special campaign called ‘Beaches of India’. They took to official social media handle to announce.
The company is even launching a ‘Beaches of India’ on its platform and would give attractive discounts to its customers so that they travel and explore India’s rich tourism sector.
