Biography of Dr. Sharma
- Born on 30 September 1959 in Manethi village, Alwar, in a family with a farming background, Mahesh Sharma’s father Kailash Chand Sharma, was a school teacher, and his mother a housewife.
- Despite coming from a small village, Mahesh Sharma not only adapted to the metro city lifestyle but also established himself through his hard work and honesty.
- After completing his primary education in the village, Mahesh Sharma graduated in Medicine (M.B.B.S.) from University College of Medical Sciences and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.
Association with Sangh since childhood
Dr. Sharma had love for the Sangh since childhood. Joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of 14. Before becoming an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he continued his association by joining the RSS’s student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

- In the elections of 16th Lok Sabha, Dr. Sharma defeated Narendra Bhati of SP. And he became the MP of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
- He became the MLA of UP after winning the 2012 assembly elections. He remained on this post till 2014.
- He held the post of Union Minister of State between 9 November 2014 and 5 June 2016. During this period, he shouldered the responsibility of Culture Ministry and Civil Aviation Minister.
- From 15 September 2014 to 9 September 2016, he was given the charge of Food Management in Parliament House Complex.
2016
- 5 July 2016 – 3 September. Till 2017, Dr. Mahesh Sharma was the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge).
- On September 3, he was also given the charge of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Meteorology.
Family Life
Dr. Mahesh Sharma married Uma Sharma on January 22, 1987. Dr. Uma is the HOD(Obst. & Gynae) at Kailash Hospital and Heart Institute. Dr. Mahesh has two children. His daughter, Dr. Pallavi Sharma, is an Eye Surgeon(MS), while his son, Dr. Kartik Sharma is MBBS and PG in Hospital Administratio from Oxford University.
