According to an official report citing at least three people familiar with the development, Infosys has sent a written communication to Cognizant after a few of its senior leaders departed to join the company. Infosys’ accusation comes after a similar allegation by its rival Wipro, which has sued two of its former executives who recently joined Nasdaq-listed Cognizant.

Non-compete clauses are not enforceable but this communication to Cognizant was more of a deterrent”, said one of the sources. It said that another source said the communication by Infosys was sent some weeks ago.

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar took over the charge in January this year. He has hired about 20 executive vice-presidents and 4 senior vice-presidents, including those from Infosys and Wipro. He was with Infosys earlier.

The allegation comes amid a growing trend of talent mobility within the tech sector, where skilled professionals are often lured away by competing firms offering lucrative incentives. The reported incident sheds light on the intensifying battle for top-tier talent among major IT companies.

Employee poaching is not a new phenomenon in the industry, but it rarely escalates to the level of public accusations. Infosys’ decision to send a letter to Cognizant indicates the seriousness with which it views the situation.

Both Infosys and Cognizant are renowned for their global presence and the diverse range of services they provide to clients across industries. The competition for talent has become a strategic imperative for these firms as they seek to bolster their capabilities and innovation potential.

The Infosys-Cognizant employee poaching controversy highlights the intense competition for top talent in the IT industry. The public accusation and the subsequent response from Cognizant underscore the challenges that companies face in attracting and retaining skilled professionals.
