Delhi Police (Special Cell) arrests ISIS terrorist

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell officials arrested the National Intelligence Agency’s (NIA) one of the most wanted ISIS terrorists from the Delhi-NCR area, on Monday, October 2. The respective news development came only after the killing of the LeT commander in Karachi by “unknown people” on Sunday night, October 1.

These terrorist organizations LeT, ISIS, and others, work under the sole motive of creating unrest in other nations and such nations work tirelessly to counter terrorism and bring peace and decorum. In India, NIA is one of those organizations that help bring such individuals to their knees.

One such similar incident occurred in the National Capital, where the Special Cell arrested ISIS’s most wanted terrorist Mohammad Shahnawaz. According to the officials, he was accused of having links with an ISIS module, along with his two associates, and seized incriminating material including those suspected to be used in IED fabrication.

Shahnawaz was nabbed in Jaitpur in Delhi, while Mohammad Rizwan Ashraf and Mohammad Arshad Warsi, the two associates, were arrested in Lucknow and Moradabad, in Uttar Pradesh, respectively.
After citing preliminary questions, officials further added that the three had recced areas in Western and Southern parts of India followed by a plan to make their base in the Western Ghat region. Earlier, they had been remanded in police custody for a week, however, Shahnawaz managed to escape from the custody of Pune police as all the three accused had been residing in Pune.

Mohd Shahnawaz, along with his three partners were wanted in the Pune ISIS module case and declared a reward money of ₹3 lakh each for credible information on them leading to their arrest. The other three have been identified as Talha Liyakat Khan from Pune, and Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali and Abdulla Faiyaz Shaikh alias Daiperwala, both from Delhi.

ISIS terrorists, Shahnawaz, Saki, and Khan were earlier arrested on July 18 by the Pune police, but the former managed to escape from the police vehicle. Saki and Khan were successfully handcuffed when they failed to attempt the theft of a two-wheeler. Hailing from Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, they both were involved in terror cases registered in Rajasthan after explosives were found in their car.

During the interrogation by Pune police in 2022, Saki and Khan revealed that Shahnawaz had kept some acid and bomb-making materials near Kondhwa, Maharashtra. The case was, then handed over to Maharashtra ATS after which they found several other documents, laptops with 500 GB data, mobile phones having images of various places in India along with YouTube videos of bomb-making.

ATS further disclosed that a foreign handler worked as a middleman to introduce Shahnawaz to Saki and Khan. In February 2023, Shahnawaz allegedly brought a man called Rizwan from Delhi to the module. After arresting Aakif Ateeque Nachan and Zulfikar Ali Barodawala in Thane district, they found out that the entire gang had recced places like Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur.

On August 8, 2023, the case was finally handed over to NIA, and finally, after the arrest of Shahnawaz, they revealed that the ISIS terrorists were planning to execute a terror strike in different regions of India. The agency has said that the identity of the informant will be kept confidential.
