In an effort to promote local cuisine amongst tourists, the Chief Minister of Goa, Rohan Khaunte announced on Sunday that shacks along the coastline must compulsorily serve fish curry and rice, as part of their menu.

This move is part of the State’s new Shack Policy aimed at showcasing its culinary delights to visitors. The decision was made in response to observations that while these popular beachfront joints offered several national and international food among other dishes, traditional Goan cuisine was conspicuously absent from their menus. Beyond promoting local cuisine, Goa’s new Shack Policy also aims at addressing illegal hawking and vending activities plaguing its pristine beaches along with submitting the list of employees or staff hired, to the officials.
