This extraordinary event captured the attention of the entire community, sparking conversations about love, determination, and the unconventional ways people express their feelings.
A 20-year-old woman climbed onto a mobile tower in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district to profess her love for a man and convince him to marry her, police said on Friday.
To witness the incident, a large number of people gathered near the 50-metre-high tower that led to traffic congestion on a nearby highway, prompting police to undertake crowd control measures.
Several in the crowd recorded the incident as it reminded them of Viru’s (Dharmendra) act on an overhead water tank professing his love for Basanti (Hema Malini) in the movie Sholay.
Police officials soon reached the spot and began rescue operations to bring the woman back to the ground, that was watched by a huge crowd, and eventually managed to bring her down safely.
After coming down, the woman was still in an angry mood and cooled down only after an FIR was filed against the man for “voluntarily causing hurt”.
Reports said that while the boyfriend is currently absconding, police authorities took his father into custody. The youth’s family claimed that he had gone to Nepal to deliver a shipment.
According to senior police officer Ajay Singh Chauhan, “She was having a love affair with a local youth and wanted to convince her family to marry her to the man.”
Police got her down and the necessary legal action will be taken. Meanwhile, investigations to track down the woman’s boyfriend are currently ongoing.
