However, recent developments suggest a reconciliation that not only mends bridges but also opens up new possibilities for the dynamic duo. On the occasion of Kartik Aaryan’s 33rd birthday today, the filmmaker Karan Johar’s production house, announced its collaboration with the actor for an upcoming project.

The filmmaker’s Dharma Productions’ will be co-producing the yet untitled film along with Ektaa Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, that is set for release on August 15, 2025. Being directed by Sandeep Modi, it will be produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R. Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms Ltd.

Apart from announcing the project, filmmaker and producer Karan Johar wished the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor on his birthday; taking to his social media handle. He posted, “Kartik, happy birthday to you…may our collaboration only grow from strength to strength from hereon and never cease to create magic on the big screen.”
Following the official declaration by the production house, the actor in an Instagram post indicated that the upcoming film could be a period drama. The announcement of the collaboration of Karan Johar with Kartik Aaryan comes as a surprise for the fans following the actor’s reportedly sour relationship with Karan Johar.
If rumours are to be believed, then Kartik was signed as the lead actor for Colin D’Cunha-helmed romantic comic drama Dostana 2 in 2021 by Dharma Productions. However, due to differences with Karan Johar and the actor’s alleged tantrums on the sets of the film, the production house dropped him from the project.
In a statement in April 2021, the production house said, “Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain dignified silence- we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Colin D’Cunha. Please wait for the official announcement soon.”
This unexpected twist in the tale not only signifies a personal reconciliation but also a strategic move for both parties involved. Johar, known for his keen eye for talent and penchant for blockbuster films, understands the value of collaboration in an industry driven by relationships.
