World’s leading search engine brand is celebrating its birthday as it turns 25 today. The google doodle replaced its ‘oo’ with ’25’ to commemorate the occasion. Launched in the year 1998, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin started a humble journey of success from a rented garage in U.S.A.
Peak in the Past
Initially termed as “Back Rub”, this science research project turned into search engine giving internet a new definition altogether. The founders met in Stanford University while pursuing doctorate degree and shared vision that was to enhance the accessibility of the World Wide Web. Both of them worked day-in and day-out from their dorm rooms and created a prototype for a better search engine. As the project progressed, they relocated their operation to their first office. Google Inc. was officially founded on September 27, 1998.
This American multinational tech giant’s name was inspired by the word ‘Googol’; a mathematical term that means a very large number. It is the digit 1 followed by 100 zeroes, while googolplex is 1 followed by a googol zeros. The name was brainstormed as ‘googolplex’ by a graduate student and Page’s friend Sean Anderson. Later it was shortened to ‘googol’.
Few words from the Founder
Since 1998, Google has evolved thus adding new features, including changing its logo with the help of Doodle from time to time. According to the blog post, “Much has changed since 1998 — including our logo as seen in today’s Doodle — but the mission has remained the same: to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Billions of people from all over the globe use Google to search, connect, work, play, and SO much more! Thank you for evolving with us over the past 25 years. We can’t wait to see where the future takes us, together.”
Meet the Doodler
Google’s doodle was created by Dennis Hwang, an intern at the company in the year 2000. He was asked to produce a doodle for Bastille Day, which later on was well received by the audience. Since then, doodle became a pivotal feature thus creating more than 5000 doodles till date.
