His health condition has declined due to a pre-existing cardiac condition. In 2010, Bal had suffered a massive heart attack and had undergone an angioplasty.
According to a doctor at the Medanta hospital, Bal was admitted there a few days ago. “He came with a heart condition that is getting stabilised but he also has an infection which is creating trouble,”
Bal was reportedly admitted to the same hospital in November last year where he was visited by his long-time friend Arjun Rampal.
A family friend disclosed that Bal has been living with a pacemaker for several years, which recently started causing issues, necessitating his hospitalization.
He was rushed to hospital by model Suraj Dhalia, according to the report. “His heart was sinking and he was unconscious. His pacemaker gave seven shocks. He was initially taken to Moolchand and when his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Medanta.”
Known for his flamboyant designs and Bollywood clientele, Rohit Bal hails from Kashmir and is one of India’s best known fashion designers.
A graduate of St Stephen’s college, he learnt fashion designing at NIFT, Delhi and international celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell have worn his designs.
He started his career in 1986 with Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd that he co-founded with his brother. He debuted his solo collection in 1990.
Known for combining edgy styles with distinctly Indian crafts the ace fashion designer recently launched a menswear collection, called “Balance”, for autumn-winter 2023.
