Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ”The Assam government is taking strides to enhance the quality of education in government schools. Class 7 to Class 12 students in government schools will now have access to a 5 per cent reservation in medical and engineering seats,”
He further informed that students in classes 7 to 10, studying under the SEBA board, will also benefit from these educational reforms. In a move aimed at empowering Adivasi and tea workers in the state, the cabinet has introduced a 3 per cent reservation for both communities in government jobs as well.
Morever, in a bid to encourage better performance in higher secondary exams, the cabinet has introduced incentives and the Girls who achieve a minimum of 60 per cent and boys who secure 75 per cent in their exams will be rewarded with a scooty.
Many bright minds in government schools may not have the financial resources to afford private coaching or the latest study materials. By reserving engineering seats, the government is acknowledging the talent pool in these schools and providing a platform for these students to excel in the field of engineering.
